My search for a Basset Hound Puppy started a long time ago, as in before I moved to Alaska in 1990. However, after my new husband and I moved back to Florida in 2009, I seriously began my search that took about two years after I retired. Granny contacted me on FB regarding three males and one female puppy to pick from. I originally wanted a female, but when my husband and I saw Funky’s name and photo we fell in love with him immediately. Now all I had to do was figure out how to pick him up. Fortunately, there was another interested future pet owner living in Florida. So, I told my husband what I wanted to do, and he said OKAY. I had never taken a road trip by myself, so I was determined to find a way. Our truck that had 200K miles got us to WI safely. I drove 1500 miles one way to arrive at Granny’s door to see the puppies for the first time. Funky took to me right away and of course I had to take photos of all the dogs. I wish we could have stayed at Granny’s to play and chat longer but the other person I was with was in a hurry to get to the hotel. Even though our time was short I felt and still feel like I’ve known Granny my whole life. She is the most loving puppy person I have ever known and that is why our Funky is so much a part of our family. The drive home after dropping off my driving partner in North Carolina was great but it took me 13 hours to finally get home. Funky and I pulled into our garage to greet my husband at 11 pm with hugs, tears, and smiles. I don’t think I could ever ask for a better experience.
