A WARNING TO PUPPY BUYERS…. This needs to be revisited over and over again.
RED FLAGS:
If kennels:
1. Have all dogs from out of the country (reputable breeders in the states won’t sell to them)
2. Advertise championship lines.
3. Have a page dedicated to talking about the sales of their puppies.
4. Have a page on payments
5. Tons of cute puppy pics and advertising litters but no info on improving quality.
6. Have no educational information
7. Have informational page on shipping, and or they’d rather meet you to give you your puppy.
8. Sell rare blue Bassets, miniature Bassets, or long haired Bassets…
9. Can’t even spell Basset correctly.
10. Breed more than 2 breeds continuously.
11. Do not belong to any breed or all breed clubs with a code of ethics they are expected to follow.
12. Advertise on Craigslist, Kijiji, Penny Saver, PuppyFind etc.
13. Charge more for AKC papers, are registered with a different kennel club (not AKC) or worse don’t have registration papers at all.
14. Sell show quality dogs but their dogs aren’t shown, trying to fool you with old dog show pictures.
15. Does not stand behind their breeding, and will not be there 24/7 for you if you have problems and need help. Says they will but won’t take the dog back at any age if there is a problem. This you can find out thru references.
16. Sell their puppies to the first person who shows up, no questions asked.
And trust me there are more of them, like 10 times more of them making money off of people who don’t know the difference, than reputable responsible breeders,
If you see more then one of these items on a website, or a social media page, you can be sure they are not in it to improve the breed, or educate people. All they want to do is sell their puppies. This is not reputable or responsible breeding and I have an issue with calling them breeders..
Reputable breeders, me for one, will help you with a decision if you are not sure please contact someone who knows the difference.
